Since 1976, the Munster Historical Society has been actively involved in documenting and preserving the history of Munster, Indiana. Our organization has been instrumental in the preservation of the Kaske House and Heritage Park, the site of The Brass Tavern stagecoach inn, the first permanent settlement in Munster. Since 1997, the Munster Historical Society has operated a museum now called the Munster History Museum in the historic 1910 Kaske House (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). The house and park are owned and maintained by Munster Parks.
Providing a variety of history-related services and programs. our volunteer efforts have helped many organizations and individuals, locally and nationwide. The Munster Historical Society is a non-profit organization. The majority of funding for our projects and events is obtained from our own fundraising activities, membership dues, and generous donations from local organizations and individuals.
We hope this web site will inspire you to join us on an exciting adventure where Munster history began, at the corner of Ridge Road and Columbia Avenue!
